The First Composting Toilet to Be Listed With NSF Standard 41

The Sun-Mar Excel was the first self-contained composting toilet in the world to be tested and listed with NSF (the National Sanitation Foundation). NSF listed Excel, 1989.

At present, Sun-Mar is the only small-load composting toilet system (cottage and regular residential use) to be listed with the NSF!! Click here to see the official NSF listings under Standard 41, from their website.

The NSF is the only body which lists and certifies composting toilets under Standard 41. While some may use the same test, only NSF Listed products may bear the NSF mark (at right).

NSF tests all stages of the operation of the unit and the finished compost to exacting standards at their facility in Ann Arbor, MI. SEMCO Certified - 220 Volt Units

SEMCO is a Swedish organization which controls and regulates 220 volt electrical systems. SEMCO certification is recognized by every country in the EEC (European Economic Community).

The Ecolet Mobile Family are the only composting toilets recognized as a Type III MSD by the USCG.

CSA, or the Canadian Standards Organization, is the body which controls and regulates all electrical systems for goods sold in Canada. CSA certification is recognized by UL, its American counterpart.
