Introducing
the MSR Marathon Ceramic
|
|
Ceramic filters are recognized
as being the most cost-effective method of removing particles, including
microorganisms, from water. Over 3 years in development, the Marathon
Ceramic offers the highest quality filtration, at a fraction of the cost
of other quality ceramic cartridges. MSR is proud to offer the Marathon
Ceramic in both the MiniWorks and WaterWorks
II filters, and as an upgrade element that will retrofit any previous
WaterWorks filter.

Effective Filtration
Through testing performed by thr University of Washington's Dept. of Environmental
Health, the Marathon Ceramic media cartridge was challenged with Brevundimonas
diminuta, a bacteria representative in size to the smallest waterborne
disease-causing bacteria (.3 micron). This organism, used to determine
removal performance of the Marathon Ceramic, is less than half of the
size of the EPA's protocal bacterial organism (Klebsiella Terrigena .7
micron) for water filter testing. According to MSR this organism more
closely represents in size, the disease-causing bacteria you may encounter
while filtering water in the field. In addition, MSR's ceramic removal
claims are based on tests performed at maximum flow rate and minimum wall
thickness. This test is more stringent than the bacterial portion of the
current EPA's "Purifier" protocol. MSR is confident that the
Marathon Ceramic provides the highest degree of safety and reliability
in portable water filtration.

Improved Industry Standards
MSR is committed to pursuing and supporting more rigorous and meaningful
portable water filtration industry standards through the ASTM process
and the ORCA Water Filter Standards Committee.

Longevity and Cost Effectiveness
Ceramic is the most cost-effective filtration method because the surface
layer can be cleaned of particles many times. By abrading the ceramic,
a virtually new surface is exposed providing excellent flow recovery.
You'll replace the ceramic less frequently, which means you can filter
more for less. In MSR's longevity tests, our Marathon Ceramic proved more
cost-effective than seven out of the eight competitive filters tested.
(And the one that beat us on cost removed less than 60% of test bacteria
from the water.)

Additional Quality Features of the Marathon
Ceramic
At the heart of the ceramic cylinder is a core of activated block carbon
which removes dissolved chemicals such as pesticides, iodine and chlorine,
industrial pollutants, and taste & odor compounds. You can be sure
your Marathon Ceramic element is of the highest quality because each one
must pass MSR's strict quality control.
